My name is Josiah Alicea, and I’m the founder, baker, and creative heart behind this bakery.
I’ve been in the cake and pastry world since 2017, but my love for baking started long before that — back in preschool, when I was serving up perfectly “cooked” plastic steaks from my play kitchen. Ever since then, I’ve found comfort and joy in creating delicious things that bring people together.
My professional journey began as a bakery clerk at Mariano’s, where my job was to place frozen cookies on trays and pop them in the oven. From there, I discovered cake decorating, and what started as a simple task turned into a full-blown passion. I decorated cakes all through college until I realized that pastry was more than just a job — it was what I wanted to dedicate my life to.
After making that leap, I joined Molly’s Cupcakes, where I became the head cake decorator and helped redevelop their cake program. I poured my creativity into designing beautiful cakes and cupcakes, but I soon found myself craving a deeper understanding of the science behind pastry. That curiosity led me to Aya Pastries, where I learned everything from buttercream techniques to perfecting tarts, sponges, and so much more.
Now, with years of experience, lessons, and love baked into every recipe, I’m proud to bring Velvet Oven to life — a bakery built on nostalgia, creativity, and the simple joy of sharing something sweet.
